Rocketboom off-course: Monetization requires size or niche 3/25/07

Video blog site Rocketboom’s founder said, “Even though we have a relatively large audience, advertisers are just not happy to do small deals …They say they want to blast their commercials to millions of people.” So, Rocketboom is considering charging viewership fees. This runs counter to growing consumer expectations for free content (e.g. YouTube) and is likely to fail. According to the Vision presented on this site, in the future advertisers will embrace sites that can either deliver the very large audiences Rocketboom cannot or deliver viewers who are particularly good sales prospects, especially those who are hard-to-reach.
