Congdon pulls out another brick in the wall 3/22/07

The Amanda Congdon kerfuffle yanks another brick out of the wall of mainstream news outlets (Hat tip: David Strom at Strominator). Ms. Congdon started as a blogger, joined the mainstream by video blogging for ABCnews.com, and now at the same time is using her celebrity and talents performing for pay in infomercials for DuPont. According to Modern Journalism, she has violated their principles of objectivity and will suffer from a loss of credibility. But, doesn’t the public trust talk radio hosts who pitch products? And, doesn’t the public know that newspapers and TV news shows they trust are supported by advertising? The truth is that the public never fully understood or committed themselves to many of the principles journalists set for themselves. And what’s worse is the public doubts that many mainstream outlets deliver on these self-imposed principles, particularly “objectivity.”
