This Zogby poll demonstrates that the 80+ year-old experiment to establish journalism as a profession based on its practitioners’ superior ability to deliver news objectively has failed. In fact, the level of public agreement that news outlets are biased exceeds their support for just about any political candidate in any unrigged election. Actually, the problem is not that news outlets are biased — it is that many journalists continue to perpetuate the myth that it is possible for them NOT to be biased. Many actually believe it. This practice of insisting on something that the public, correctly, no longer believes will only serve to further tarnish the image of journalists.
